Captain William G. “Stump” Cothern, age 61, and a resident of Gulfport, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2009 at home. Stump was a lifelong resident of the Coast and was of the Baptist faith. He worked in the Marine Industry from 1972 until he retired in 2007. He was a Boat Captain for 18 years. He will be remembered for his extended love for the sport of drag racing. He was preceded in death by his father, William T. Cothern; and his sister, Pat Richards. Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Mary Cothern; 2 daughters, Monnette Lucas and Jennifer Shaw; 4 brothers, David G., John, Tommy and Lionel Cothern; one sister, Gloria Cothern; and 5 grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving pets; his dogs, Merle, Pearl, Buster and Gemma, and his cats, Roadrunner and Pitter Pat. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, August 21, 2009 with the Memorial Service to follow at 2 p.m., all at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. taken from www.reimannfamily.com |
