Where They Stand...Breaking Down the Huntsville Engine "KOC" Pro Footbrake Class. Barnett Eyes Championship but Taylor Has Other Plans.
It would be an understatement to say that Mike Barnett and Scott Taylor are competitve racers. They are EXTREMELY COMPETITIVE AND PASSIONATE about winning. Both gentlemen show up to the track with the intention of winning and nothing less is acceptable. Barnett of Columbia, MS and Taylor of Petal, MS are set to do battle with the Huntsville Engine "King of the Coast" Pro Footbrake Championship hanging in the balance. Barnett who pilots the will recognized "Headless Horseman" Dodge Daytona enters the "KOC" Event 5 weekend to be held August 22 & 23 at Gulfport Dragway holding a five point lead over Taylor. Taylor once trailed Barnett by 10 rounds after the "KOC" Event two but narrowed the margin by nine points after "KOC" Event 3 and took a big bite of Barnett's points lead after "KOC" Event 4 shrinking the gap to five points.

"Both Taylor and Barnett are in that elite class on the Gulf Coast when it comes to the Who's Who of Footbrake racing.", Gaylon Rolison of the "KOC" Series stated. "These guys know to flat out get it done as I have personally witnessed both guys just completely dominate a weekend of racing," Rolison added. In addition to competing in the Pro Footbrake Class, Taylor races off the top bulb in the "KOC" Pro Electronics Class in his J-Mark Race Cars Slip Joint Dragster. Taylor won the dragster in the J-Mark Race Cars Ultimate Dragster Race-Off as he footbraked his way to the WIN in field full of Pro Electronics Cars.

Taylor has a little extra drive to capture the 2009 "KOC" Pro Footbrake Championship. Each time Taylor straps on the belts he has his brother Rodney Taylor on his mind. Rodney, who also competed in "KOC" events over the years, was involved in an auto accident not too long ago that left him not able to walk thus far. "I vividly remember talking to Scott on the phone asking about Rodney's condition a few days after the accident. Scott told me that he would not race this year as he planned on helping out with getting Rodney well not matter what it took. Well a few weeks later in a conversation with Scott, he explained to me that he would race this year as his brother told him, "Don't quit racing on account of me. I am going to be ok. I want you to race and do what you love to do." Well that just added to the "fire in the eye" to Taylor as he not only has won on the "KOC" Series this year, he has claimed WINS all over the Gulf Coast.
The task will not be easy for Taylor to catch Barnett as Barnett is a well seasoned veteran bracket racer who himself has claimed WINS all over the South which include Montgomery Motorsports Park, Battlefield Raceway in Meridian, MS, Hub City Dragway in Hattiesburg, MS and Mobile Dragway. Early this year Barnett pulled off a "Triple Crown" of Bracket racing as he WON three catagories in a single night which were Footbrake, Quick 8 Footbrake and Run-for-the-Money at Mobile Dragway. "Mike is a guy that can show up on race day and take one hit down the track and be ready for 1st Rd. Mike is a bad dude.," Rolison explained.

The remainder of the Top 10 in points include Opie Pearce of Saucier, MS, Timmy Fieramusca (Back to Back Jr. Dragster 13-17 Champion), Aaron Hill of Gulfport, MS, multi-time Hub City Dragway Track Champion Delman Busha of Petal, MS, Two-Time "KOC" Pro Footbrake Champion Reid Mocherman of Slidell, LA, Reigning "KOC" Pro Footbrake Champion Mike Cameron of Petal, MS, Michael Lewis of Saucier, MS, Don Bingham of Slidell, LA and Bubba Stephenson of Bastrop, LA.
