Heavy Hitter |
We don't know if Pro ET racer Teddy Epperson of Sycamore, AL owed the tax man this year, but if he did, Saturday night's (4/15) two-peat win at Montgomery Motorsports Park came in very handy. The first back-to-back winner this year, Epperson took his gray '67 Camaro to the winner's circle for the second week in a row. He defeated heavy hitter Marty Wiles of Tyrone, Georgia in the finals. Epperson dialed a 6.74 and ran a 6.754 at 100.36 miles per hour. Wiles dialed a 4.93 and ran a 4.938 at 135.62 miles per hour, losing despite the great package and an .016 reaction time as Epperson nailed the tree to the tune of .004.
In the Footbrake class, old pro Lowell Bowen of Millerville, AL took the win over Tyler, Alabama racer Darryl Driggers. Bowen's classic '55 Chevy ran a 7.178 ion his 7.14 dial at 87.28 miles per hour for the win. Driggers dialed a 7.53 but his '71 Nova fell off to a 7.583 at 88.31 miles per hour in a losing cause. Preparations are already underway for this weekend's (4/22-23) Capital City Nationals, which could net one racer a $22,000 payday, including a free entry into the Super Bowl of big bucks bracket drag racing, the Bill Taylor Engineering Million Dollar Drag Race. Pro ET racers will shoot for a $10,000 payday each day and, if there are 200 Pro cars, George will hold a drawing for a FREE entry into the BTE Million Dollar Drag Race, a $2,000 value. Car+Driver weekend entry $200 ($150 1-day entry). Pro runner-up $2,000, Semis $500, 3rd round winners get $100 round money. Footbrakers will gun for $1,000 to win each day and race for FREE, paying only a $30 weekend spectator admission. Footbrake runner-up $300, Semis $100, 1/4 $50, 1/8 $25.
