I bought an altered a couple of months ago and I'm concerned about wheel standing. The wheel base is 115" and it has a 355 with about 12:1 compression, solid roller with .600 lift, duration unknown, 8" converter that seems really tight, starts over powering the foot brake at about 3500 rpm, haven't really stalled it using the transbrake yet, has 4.57 gears with 33X16 hoosiers. Car has solid suspension and I would guess the weight to be about 1700# with me in it. Intake is an old victor jr with 700 double pumper. I've never really driven anything but 12 second street cars and think I have gotten in over my head. Also, what kind of pressure do slicks like these usually run with? They only have 8# in them right now and seem like they bulge out in the center, are mounted on 16 or 15 " wheels, not sure if they have tubes or not. I think they are tubeless. Goob, you seem really knowledgeable, I'd like to hear from you and anyone else also. Any advice would be appreciated.

Beach Bum,IMO i really don't think your going to need wheelie bars with your setup. My 92" WB 32 altered with 355CID 13.6 to 1 compression 1700 lb didn't. I ran 4.86 gears with 33x15x15 with 5 lbs of air. Good Luck and have fun in your new ride.

beach bum,,,,, the big end wasn't the problem. For some reason at 1700 lbs at the starting line with 1.2 60' was the problem. Lots of times it wanted to clime the tree, reguardless of witch line i was in. Seems like it had a mind of it's own.I would leave off the two step at 5000rpms. Always think safty first, go out and have fun.

Hey eight90, I'd like to say thanks for the advice and encouragement. The first night out was horrible but after changing a steering stabilizer and going down on the front air pressure things worked out pretty good, short times are kind of on the slow side but are consistent @ 1.385, 1.384 and 1.382, now if I could just get used to reacting to that top bulb i'd be much better off, again thanks for the help.
