I just picked up a 454 block. Each lifter hole has a slot machined in it . Is this for a special lifter or what. I have never seen anything like this before. None of the machine shops in my area can tell me what the slots are for. Any help would be greatly apreciatted.

Probably a lifter bore groove to increase oiling. It's pretty common practice on high stress applications.
If none of the machine shops can tell you what they are for, I would find another machine shop. Tony Barnett 897B |
