like anything else it just takes lots of seat time to get comfortable. the more passes you can make the more everything will just become second nature to you. everyone probably does their burnouts, etc. a little different; just find what works best with your combination and practice doing it the same way everytime.

I too went from a door car running 5.9s to
dragster 5.2s first time out.I thought about
it a lot. Sit in the car and go thru the motions
in head, but activating which ever buttons you
will be using during competition. One difference
will be burn out like you mentioned.Just roll
thru the water stop just ahead of the water box.
Hold the button for the 3 step and nail it.
This part will take a few tries to see what
works for your combo as how long to stay in the
throttle.Usaully only a count of three(for me)
Delay box setting wil be different.I went from
1040 delay time inthe door car to 1105
depending of course on what track.Be sure and
check the car good before driving it.Wheel lug
nuts,bolts in the steering system,brakes,etc.
Once the car launches, hopefully its pointed in the right direction,It will practically drive
itself because of the high degree of caster built in to the front tires. If you have a hard
tail(no suspension)be easy on the brakes at the
finish line.Good luck and have fun.It will
sure leave a little harder in the 60 foot.

Just saw a 17 year old wreck a hard tail. Bounced when he hit the brakes, he hit them harder and hit the wall. Back off and ease back in. I'm on my 3rd dragster.

It's a rush!!!!

My 1st advice( and I know I will get some heat from the faithfull) is to get it suspended. Wheter you go front suspension or rear, it is money well spent for your all around safety. A suspended car will not bounce, will allow you to be in control racing the finish line and will help eliminate those odd redlights from the tires coming out of the beams.

If you are a faithfull and have to have the hardtail/slipjoint car then you must take time to learn the car. Learn the burnout so you don't shake the tires. Learn rolling in/out of the throttle and learn how to slow the car with easy brake pressure rolling out of the throttle.

never drove a h/t or slip. Know several people who have h/t drasgters thought. Never just jam the brake, tap them lightly, i suggest not using the gold pads.
