Cummings Team Gearing Up for Summer Swing, JEGS All-Stars Appearance

Hammond, LA: The Moser Engineering backed Cummings Motorsports team has enjoyed a strong start to their 2009 campaign. Highlights include Slate Cummings’ double victory at the IHRA Mardi Gras Nationals in Baton Rouge, LA, where he captured both the Stock and Super Stock titles; a runner-up finish by Jody “Cool” Simoneax at the Texas Motorplex LODRS event, and another runner-up for Slate Cummings at the IHRA Pro-Am in Baton Rouge, LA.

The team’s last outing was that IHRA Pro-Am event in Baton Rouge, where the entire Moser Engineering team was onhand and competing in a variety of categories. In addition to Slate Cummings’ Stock Runner-Up on day 1, Britt Cummings advanced to the 3rd round in Top Dragster competition. Jody Simoneaux made the semi-final round in Stock Eliminator, and teammate Allen Constantine advanced to the semi-final round in Quick Rod. Family patriarch Larry Cummings and his son Britt were still in competition on day 2 when rains came, forcing the conclusion of the event to be postponed.

The Cummings Motorsports team will tackle an ambitious upcoming schedule, starting with this weekend’s Lucas Oil series event at Houston Raceway Park. From there, the team will make an appearance at the Great American Bracket Race, a $50,000-to-win event at No Problem Raceway Park, before heading the IHRA Amalie Oil Texas Nationals at the new Dallas Raceway Park. That weekend will be followed by a trip to Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL for the NHRA Route 66 Nationals. At that event, both Slate Cummings (Super Stock) and Jody Simoneaux (Stock) have qualified to represent Division 4 in the prestigious JEGS All-Stars competition. The All-Stars appearance will be the first for both Cummings and Simoneaux, as both attempt to add to their illustrious and growing resumes within the special shootout event.
