Phillips, Fletcher, and Bogacki lead ThisIsBracketRacing.com BTE Sportsman Power Rankings as Season Nears Midpoint

Woodville, AL: Sportsman racers throughout North America have been accumulating points towards ThisIsBracketRacing.com’s unique BTE Sportsman Power Rankings top prize for over five months thus far in 2009. The standings, which rank sportsman competitors from all over the continent based on final round finishes in major sportsman events, hosts a myriad of successful sportsman competitors regardless of their car, sanction, or class of choice.

As the season reaches it’s midway point, the top BTE Power Rankings standings is littered with big name competitors from various facets of sportsman competition. Longtime division 4 standout Tommy Phillips currently leads the BTE Power Rankings with a whopping 60 points. What may be more impressive is that Phillips has earned those points in just 4 events; having claimed a pair of NHRA National event triumphs in both Super Comp and Super Gas, arguably the most competitive categories in NHRA drag racing.

Trailing Phillips is decorated sportsman competitor Dan Fletcher. Fletcher, like Phillips, competes mainly along the NHRA tour; and, like Phillips, has amassed an impressive 50 point total in just 4 events. Fletcher, the defending NHRA World Champion in Competition eliminator, kicked off his 2009 campaign with 3 NHRA national ev ent victories in that class, and added a runner-up in Stock Eliminator.

Third place currently belongs to ThisIsBracketRacing.com’s own Luke Bogacki, who trails Fletcher by just 2 points with a 48 point total. Bogacki has earned his points in a variety of ways, having appeared in seven major final rounds already in 2009. He has scored national event titles in both NHRA and IHRA, along with a $10,000 bracket triumph, a pair of $5,000 victories, a $5,000 runner-up, and the IHRA Summit All-Stars title.

Fourth place driver Troy Williams, Jr. has tallied his 45 points mainly in the big dollar bracket racing arena. The Florida based competitor has made a big jump in recent weeks with a runner-up at the $50,000 Ultimate 64 Shootout and a $10,000 score last weekend in Montgomery, AL. Those finishes, along with another pair of $10,000 victories early in the season, an IHRA Pro-Am title and a $10,000 bracket race runner-up have catapulted Williams into the fourth spot.

Multi-class West coast standout Thomas Bayer currently occupies the fifth spot, on the strength of a pair of NHRA National event wins in Super Comp, and a Lucas Oil Series triumph in the 8.90 category. A national event runner-up in Super Gas pushes Bayers early season total to 38 points within the BTE Power Rankings.
A “Who’s Who” of sportsman competitors round out the current top ten in the BTE Power Rankings, including John Labbous, Jr., Scotty Richardson , and Stephen Hughes who are each dead-locked at 35 points; Anthony Bertozzi (34), Jody Lang and Mike Desio (33 each).

The overall Power Rankings champion at season’s end will receive a complete BTE Top Dragster (or Top Sportsman) Powerglide Transmission ($3590 value)! Each top ten finisher will earn lucrative prizes courtesy of ThisIsBracketRacing.com and a variety of supporting sponsors. Some prizes include an APD gas or alcohol dominator, a BTE racing converter, and more. Racers must be an annual member of ThisIsBracketRacing.com by September 1, 2009 to redeem prizes at season’s end.

The BTE Power Rankings are determined from the results of each event on ThisIsBracketRacing.com’s comprehensive nationwide 2009 schedule. That schedule consists of every NHRA and IHRA national, divisional, and bracket finals event, and any bracket-style event that pays $5,000 or more to win, anywhere in North America. Points are awarded based on the magnitude of the event, and details are available on ThisIsBracketRacing.com. Currently the BTE Power Rankings standings hosts over 600 competitors who have appeared in major final rounds in 2009.
