CUMMINGS TEAM CONTINUES TO RACK UP HARDWARE FROM 2007

Hammond, LA: Last weekend brought the annual NHRA Division 4 banquet and track operators meetings in Houston, TX. There, the Moser Engineering backed Cummings Motorsports team was in attendance to honor 2007 NHRA Division 4 Super Comp champion Slate Cummings. Little did the team know, however, that additional accolades were in store.

While Slate Cummings did pick up his first NHRA Wally trophy for a hard-earned season championship, before he could even take the podium to address the gathered crowd, he was also honored as the divisions Super Comp driver of the year.

This is really special, said Cummings. Winning the division championship is a huge accomplishment, especially in Division 4 because the competition is so solid throughout the Super Comp category. But the driver of the year honor, that's something that the racers vote on, so to be granted that title ranks even higher to me.

In addition to Slate's divisional honors, his father Larry Cummings also earned an unexpected honor, as he was voted the Super Category Wrench of the Year. Larry, the patriarch of the Cummings family, competes in Stock and Super Stock and oversees the teams fleet of Moser Engineering competition vehicles. That fleet includes entries in Super Comp, Super Stock, Stock, and Top Dragster competition.

This whole deal was a really welcome surprise, expressed Larry Cummings. We come out and race hard all year to try to win championships. But when your peers vote to recognize those achievements and the hard work that goes along with them, that's a big deal.”

The Cummings Motorsports team is in the process of finalizing plans for the 2008 campaign. The team will once again fly the colors of Moser Engineering, as the two have agreed to a multi-year alignment this off season. The team plans to kick off the 2008 campaign at Immokalee Regional Raceway with an IHRA event in early February. From there, they will tour the country in search of divisional and national titles in NHRA Super Comp, Super Stock, and Stock, as well as IHRA Top Dragster, Quick Rod, Super Stock, and Stock.
