Jody Cool Simoneaux Takes Runner-Up Honors for Team Moser.

Dallas, TX: Jody “Cool” Simoneaux, the shoe for the Moser Engineering backed Cummings Motorsports team’s E/SA Chevy II took runner-up honors at last weekend’s NHRA Division 4 Lucas Oil Series opener at the Texas Motorplex. Simoneaux, who finished the 2008 campaign with a second place finish in the Division 4 Stock standings advanced through an impressive cast of opponents en route to his first divisional final round.

Simoneaux kicked off his day with an opening round defeat of legendary Division 4 veteran Verne Buchanan. He then knocked off recent NHRA Gator Nationals winner Scott Helms in round two, and disposed of Dean Oliver in the third frame. In the quarterfinal round, he met up with defending NHRA Division 4 Champion Jarrod Granier, and bested his foe from a year ago to advance to a semi-final meeting with the always tough Terry Emmons. There, “Cool” used a solid .029 reaction and dead-on 11.325 to knock out Emmons and move into the final round. Waiting there was another Louisiana racer, Sam Lusco, Jr. Simoneaux ended the bayou tilt prematurely, however, as he just missed a stellar reaction time with a -.009 red light.

“We’re really proud of Cool. He does a great job behind the wheel, and he’s a huge asset to our team and to Moser Engineering, both on and off the track,” said Britt Cummings.

In addition to Simoneaux’s final round appearance, the other members of the Moser Engineering Bayou Boyz team were in attendance at Dallas as well. Slate Cummings advanced to the third round of Stock Eliminator competition, before falling to Granier in a rematch of sorts. The duo had run in the final round of the Mardi Gras Nationals in Baton Rouge a month earlier, with Cummings coming out on top after an epic run. This time the tables turned, however, with Granier taking the win in a double-breakout decision. Slate Cummings also advanced to the quarterfinal round in Super Stock in his Moser Engineering Cavalier, where he lost a close double-breakout decision to two-time NHRA World Champion Gary Stinnett. Family patriarch Larry Cummings also competed in the Super Stock category in his gorgeous new Eastex Race Cars built Moser Engineering Cavalier, but fell in the opening round of competition.

In addition to Moser Engineering, the Cummings team thanked the following partners for their continued support: Reher & Morrison, River Parrish RV, Meguiars, Trick Switch Panels, CSR Performance Products, B&M Performance, Borla, Brodix Cylinder Heads, Mickey Thompson Tires, K&N, Holley Performance, Amalie Oil, Weld Wheels, Richmond Gear, Altronics, Harwood, Nitroplate, Edelbrock, Mr. Gasket, Wegner Racing Engines, Biondo Racing Products, Auto Meter, Mullis Race Cars, Simpson Safety Equipment, Sullivan Transmissions, The Race Shop, H&F Performance, Folk Race Cars, and Milodon.
